Scripture: “Open my eyes . . .” (Psalm 119:18 NIV).

In 1895, Clara Scott penned this beautiful hymn:

Open my eyes, that I may see glimpses of truth Thou hast for me; place in my hands the wonderful key that shall unclasp and set me free.                             Silently now I wait for Thee, ready my God, Thy will to see.                             Open my eyes, illumine me, Spirit divine!

My Prayer: Father, too often I get busy with things I consider urgent and do Joynot take time to see the beauty of Your creation. This snapshot was taken through a rain-spattered deck window. Had I continued to focus on the dirty pane, I would have never seen this majestic cardinal posing for his portrait. Even worse, I notice human failures and fall into murmuring and complaining, instead of loving the friends and family You have given me.

God’s Response: Beloved, nothing is as important as love—Love for Me and love for one another. Seek Me first each day, giving thanks for everything, and I will change your perspective. Your eyes will be opened to the beauty of your surroundings, and your heart will be opened to the needs of others.
