Scripture: I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us (Philippians 3:14 NLT).

There’s a story about an old farmer whose hound spotted a jackrabbit darting from the bushes.  The dog took off after the little creature, and his barks and bays aroused all the other dogs in the area.  The pack followed awhile and then, one by one, stopped and made their way back home.  All except the first hound, who continued the chase until well after dark.

An observer asked, “Why did the other dogs quit, but yours didn’t?”

The farmer puffed on his corncob pipe a moment. “Because they hadn’t seen the rabbit,” he drawled.

This story has much to teach us about perseverance. We who have experienced the touch of Jesus on our hearts and in our lives will keep their focus on Him and will never drop out of this most important endeavor of our lives.

Prayer: Father, Lord Jesus, help me never forget how You came into my heart and transformed my broken life. I caught just a glimpse of You, but in that moment I saw Your beauty and felt the power of Your love. Help me stay focused on You, every day, all the way.  Amen.
