MY TRIP TO COLORADO
Scripture: A man who has friends]must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother (Proverbs 18:24 NKJV).
Thanks to my incredibly efficient daughter-in-law who arranged an affordable flight, I was able to go visit my dear friend Debra Westergaard last week. While we’ve only known each other for about three years, no sisters could be closer. She is the one I can share anything with, no matter how awful. I am always amazed that she loves me, despite my multitude of warts. She brings out the best in everyone who knows her.
Debra and her husband Johnny sold their property in Cut-n-Shoot, Texas, and built a new home near Pueblo, Colorado, at the base of the Wet Mountains. It’s some distance from the closest town, Florence, and sits on thirty-five acres of beautiful woods populated with birds, deer, antelope, and rumors of mountain lions and bears—although they have yet to have these predators visit them. Johnny is an amputee, and their lovely new home is built to accommodate handicap needs and afford the peace and quiet he craves.
Their home includes two of the most adorable Yorkies ever—Tiny and Bo, each a hefty four pounds each. Playful and affectionate, these two canine companions give them hours of pleasure and extravagant love.
Although they have good neighbors and her bright personality makes instantaneous friends, she has missed worshiping with her church family. Our absence has left a huge hole in her heart, as well as in those of us who love her dearly. But with Johnny’s health uncertain, she knows this is where God would have her right now. He is very nice, and they have a sweet relationship.
To their deep hurt, their children—although church members—have chosen to distance themselves, so friends are the family they miss. She was part of our Sunday Bible class and the nursing home ministry, always ready to help with special events for the less fortunate. Please remember them in your prayers. They so need a good church family.
Prayer: Father, you have given me the sister I never had, and the more I know Debbie, the more I love her and cherish her friendship. Please fill her and Johnny’s every need and pour great blessings upon them. In Jesus’s precious name I pray, amen.
