THE EMPTY CLOTHES
Scripture: “Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus’ head was folded up and lying apart from the other wrappings. Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed” (John 20:6-8 NLT).
At that moment, Peter and John realized the incredible truth–Jesus was alive and they would again enjoy His presence! They would see Him again, sit beside Him, walk with Him, eat with Him, hear His laughter, feel the touch of His hand, hear His wonderful teachings, share their concerns with Him, and experience His peace and comfort. The grave could not hold Jesus, and their beautiful relationship with Him would no longer be only a sad memory.
This too is my desire–that my heart enjoy Christ’s presence every moment of my day, every day of my life. I rejoice each time I think of His promise, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” The empty cross promises forgiveness, the empty tomb eternal life, and the empty clothes His unending presence.
I woke this morning to the melody of an old hymn by Austris Whithol: “My God and I go to the fields together; we walk and talk as good friends should and do . . . This earth will pass and with it common trifles. But God and I will go unendingly.” This is the beautiful relationship promised us by the empty clothes!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, let me walk with You today. May I experience Your Presence every moment of my day, every day of my life. Thank You for choosing me to be Your friend.
